Cullen Bloodstock Services is an elite,
boutique agency founded with the intent of providing competent, honest
and professional service to owners in the Thoroughbred industry. To
that end, Cullen Bloodstock offers a full-range of services, including
broodmare management, pedigree analysis, mating consultation, commercial
sales representation, and racing partnerships.
President Jim Cullen is a Kentucky native whose personal and professional
experiences in the Thoroughbred industry help him provide unique
insights into the racing and breeding industries. A hands-on horseman,
Cullen
began working on Thoroughbred breeding farms as a teenager, and he
continued working on major Lexington nurseries throughout his matriculation
through college. Though his primary experience centers on working
with broodmares and breaking yearlings for commercial sales, he has
also
walked ‘hots’ and groomed horses for a good friend who
trains on the Kentucky circuit.
Cullen couples that equine background with a Bachelor’s of
Art degree earned from the University of Louisville in 1990. His
professional
career include stints as an award-winning Turf writer and editor
for Thoroughbred Times (1995-98), Blood-Horse (1999-2001) and The
Texas
Thoroughbred (1999-2001), during which he specialized in coverage
of the breeding and sales industries. He has also served important
roles
with Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) and the
Texas Thoroughbred Association.
Most recently, Cullen was an integral member of West Point Thoroughbreds,
Inc., during which he served as a managing partner who assisted
in client services. He helped found West Point Bloodstock in
2001 before
striking out on his own in early 2003. During his tenure with West
Point, Cullen helped manage the careers of many outstanding runners,
including graded stakes winners Sweet Nanette and Ethan Man, 2002
Triple Crown contenders Bob’s Image, My Man Ryan and Sherm,
and Erinsouthernman, who placed in the 2002 Champagne Stakes (G1).
Cullen was also an integral force behind the company’s expansion
into Dubai. He traveled to the United Arab Emirates for the 2002 Pearls
of Dubai juvenile sale, where he helped identify and purchase West
Point’s initial runners in that country, including the stakes
winner Seattle Fitz (Arg).
